Totally redesigned bodystyle and was named the Mustang II. It was the same size as the original Mustang and sold almost three times as well as the 1973 model. The front suspension has become the universal standard for modern hot rods. But the car is widely disparaged today.
Ford's major failing was in turning their back on the muscle car era and not offering a V8. The available engines were a 2.3L 4-cylinder (88hp) and a 2.8L V6 (105 hp). A 302 V8 (140hp) was quickly lined up for sale the following year.
