Big Five South African Animals Puzzle Set

A five pin set that includes the ‘Big Five’: elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion and the rhino. The term ‘Big Five’ is used to describe the power and strength of the animals. The term was coined last century as these five animals were the most difficult to be hunted on foot.

This set features from top left to right the black rhinoceros.  A large herbivore having two upright horns on the nasal bridge.  The South African Lion, the largest of the lion species.  The African leopard, is  a large, carnivorous feline.  Wary of humans and will take flight in the face of danger. 

Bottom left to right is the African elephant,  The African elephant is the largest land-based mammal and can grow up to almost 4 m/13 ft tall. Elephants live in tight-knit families and are very protective of their young.  The African buffalo or Cape buffalo is a large horned bovid. They are the only animals within the Big Five that are not endangered or threatened.  Cape buffalo is considered by many to be the most dangerous of the big five to hunters.
