Maybach Pullman Limousine 1935

Marklin on a Birk baseplate, most likely
1 Variant  | 1 Custom

note: this toy was found in a box of old toy parts and it was assumed that the chassis and body went together since they more or less fit.  Since writing the text below, the body has been matched to the Marklin 5521/7 Limousine (right down to the 7 on the left side) but the chassis on that is different in regard to front and rear lights.  The chassis has definite Birk markings, the body has none.  Actual parentage of the body is now up in the air.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The chassis is tinplate and similar to Tootsietoy's Graham series but the rear fenders are longer and more sweeping.  The diecast body has a lower profile and a bustle that doesn't exist on the Grahams.  Nor does it resemble the Tootsietoy LaSalle.  The chevrons on the grille and general shape bring to mind a Citroen Traction Avant.  There is a number 7 molded just forward of the left front door.  If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that this is a late Thirties model created after a threatening lawsuit from Tootsietoy.

The actual catalog name for this item is unknown.  Scale is assumed, based on the theory that the toy represents a Citroen 11CV Normale, for which I have inconsistent information on length.
