This model was based on the Talbot Wind, a vehicle produced by French coachbuilder Heuliez as a "beach car". The real Talbot Wind, however, was built onto a Simca 1100 pick-up truck, rather than a Rancho (although the Rancho was also based on the Simca 1100).
