This is one of three Land Rovers that only appeared in Gift Sets issued in 1968. These were the Pony Club (7 blue), GS8 Lions of Longleat in white with the same camouflage design as the Daktari one and this one from Daktari, (15, green with black camouflage) .
These lasted well into the 1970s so can be found with the normal spun wheels, later cast wheel styles and Whizzwheels. There are late sets, too, with smart wheels and just one lion character but still using the same original cast!
The set had a whole load of characters! A lady riding a lion, a tiger on the bonnet, glasses for the lion, a doctor with a stethoscope and a chimp on his lap! All this enabled Corgi to make a lot more money out of this remarkably long-running model.
This is just the Land Rover with the quite scarce Whizzwheels. It is a very clean and almost unmarked model with just some chips on the bumper and a small chip on one side. The screens are clear and base looks like new. The post on which a tiger sits is missing. I shall try and replace this but in the meantime it is as it stands. (The tiger is not included.)
