The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile (English: Triumphal Arch of the Star) is an iconic patriotic monuments in Paris, France, located at the west end of the Champs-Élysées at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle. Designed in 1806 and inaugurated in 1836, the arch honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I. The structure is 50 meters (164 feet) high, 45 meters (148 feet) wide and 22 meters (72 feet) deep.
