In 1885, Auhagen was founded as a cardboard factory.
In 1945, Rudolf Auhagen junior, a trained painter and graphic artist, returns from the war and begins refining the cardboard from his own production. Embossed jam jar lids, punched Christmas tree decorations and the like as well as packaging made of cardboard are produced.

In 1952, with the construction of a traditional Christmas mountain in the Ore Mountains for the family, the idea arose to design and manufacture houses for the model railroad as a kit. They were made entirely of cardboard and paper and supplemented with wooden parts.
In 1965, in order to be able to manufacture plastic injection molds and parts in-house, an in-house tool shop is set up and plastic injection molding machines are purchased. This allows chimneys, windows, ridge strips, etc. to be enclosed in plastic. One speaks of "mixed construction".
