Basil Green was something like South Africa’s equivalent to Carroll Shelby. A race driver turned tuner and a Ford dealer as well. Green's Perana range converted the Escort GT to 2000 engines (foreshadowing the English Escort RS 2000), Cortina were converted to 3.0 V6s (a similar model would later be built by Ford South Africa) and the Capri to 5.0 V8s. Although not Ford products, Perana Fords were blessed by Ford South Africa and offered through South African Ford dealers.
