The brand was created in 1919 under the name Société des projecteurs Cibié by Léon Cibié. It grew under his son Pierreto over 100 employees.

Nearly 150 patents were filed by Cibié, including one in 1947 consisting of the introduction of a blade to direct the light beam and which has since been used on all cars in Europe and the rectangular light in 1956 , used in particular on the Renault 16 or the Citroën Ami 6.

In 1972 , the company had 4000 employees and manufactured nearly 10 million lights per year.

The brand was sold in the 1970s to Ferodo when Pierre Cibié retired from business, and then to Valeo.
