Dinky Toys (Marvels in Miniature) made in India

Brand

Something Missing?

During 1968 and 1970 Meccano sent some dies for Dinky models to a firm in Calcutta in India called S Kumar & Co. who traded as Atamco Private Ltd. They were marketed in India as Nicky Toys and the finished product only could be described as crude compared to Dinky Toys made in the Binns Road Factory in the UK in England.

The scarcest of the Nicky Toys Series are the 1st series, because the original boxes were printed with the brand name DINKY TOYS and Made in India on the base plate.

This fact is especially important, because it’s the only instance of relocated Dinky Toys production that will receive a manufactured country reference other than made in UK or made in France.

Very quickly Dinky became aware of the brand name damage due to the quality of the finish product and they withdrew their support and ordered that the Dinky name not to be associated with any models produced in Calcutta, India.

After that, the brand name Nicky Toys appeared.

Nicky Toys production ceased in the 1980s.
