Electric 9V System

LEGO introduced its 9-volt electric train system in 1991. It was discontinued in 2006 and replaced by an infrared remote control system.
The system was developed by LEGO designers Torben Plagborg, Claas Runo Järnros and Bjarne Juhl Larsen beginning in February 1988 for a targeted 1991 release.
