Emma Peel was married to Peter Peel, a test pilot, who was thought to be dead after his plane crashed in the jungle, making her a widow. In late 1968, however, he was found alive and she left Steed to rejoin him. Her place assisting Steed was taken by trainee agent Tara King.
She and Steed evidently remained close, however, as she appeared in cameo in the 1976 series The New Avengers where she kindly admonished him for calling her "Mrs. Peel" because she was "not Mrs. Peel anymore". As such, it would appear that she and Peter Peel either divorced or she was widowed (again) and remarried at some point between 1969 and 1976.
