"Long Weekend" Part 1 of 2. Guest-starring Hawkeye. Jim Rhodes needs a vacation after his time travel adventure ended with the loss of his black & silver armor. So for rest and relaxation, Rhodey drives to a small country village to go fishing! But Jim is unaware of the strange things going on in the village! Namely, the giant cyborg lake monster called Lictor! The armorless Rhodey better be careful where he casts his line! First (cameo) appearance of Rhodey's new alien armor (aka the Eidolon Warwear). Cameo appearances by Rae LaCoste, Sheva Joseph, and Skye.

"Here Be Dragons" Part 2 of 2. Guest-starring Hawkeye. First (full) appearance of the Eidolon Warwear armor. In a surprising twist, Jim Rhodes has a new set of armor! An ancient warrior race called the Eidolon has bestowed upon Rhodey an "Eidolon Warwear" suit! Jim doesn't know why he received it; but he's thankful he has the alien armor, because the monstrous Lictor is still trying to kill him! Nevertheless, the powerful War Machine is back in business and ready to lay out the Lictor! Cameo appearances by Sheva Joseph, Rae LaCoste, Skye, and the Hulk.

The Crossing - "A Little Muscle" Guest-starring Hawkeye and the U.S. Agent. Plot continues from Force Works #17. On his way back to Los Angeles, Rhodey gets to test his new Eidolon Warwear suit against a steroid-fueled bodybuilder named Wolfgang! After making short work of Wolfgang, Jim reports in at Worldwatch. And about an hour later, Rhodey receives a visitor: the U.S. Agent! The agent tells Jim that Hawkeye has been arrested and detained for the recent murders at Avengers Mansion! Rhodey can't believe it! So he and the agent make a plan to free their friend from the Force Works headquarters in Ventura! But one person stands in their way: Cybermancer! Welcome to The Crossing War Machine! Story continues in Iron Man 322 and Force Works #18. Cameo appearances by Sheva Joseph, Dr. Erica Sondheim, and the Black Widow. Flashback cameos by Iron Man, Spider-Woman, and the Scarlet Witch. (Notes: The murders in question took place in the special one-shot: Avengers The Crossing (1995). During this timeframe, War Machine makes a crossover appearance in Malibu's Siren (1995) limited series. The letters page includes Jim Calafiore's original design drawings for the Eidolon Warwear armor.

The Crossing - "Brothers in Arms" Guest-starring Hawkeye, the U.S. Agent, and the Black Widow. Plot continues from Force Works #18. At an abandoned airfield north of Calexico, California; Natasha Romanoff joins the Brothers in Arms! The quartet of present and former avengers is convinced an attack is coming! And shortly after daybreak their premonition is confirmed in spades! The powerful cyborg called Deathunt leads a group of high-tech assassins onto the airfield! And they're expecting an easy victory against Hawkeye, the widow, the agent, and Rhodey! But Deathunt and his crew aren't familiar with the Eidolon Warwear suit! Rest assured they will be soon... and to their detriment! Cameo appearance by Sheva Joseph. (Notes: Hawkeye's quest to find Tony Stark continues in Iron Man 323. The cover mistakenly says December 1996. It should read December 1995.

The Crossing - "The Last Stand" Guest-starring Iron Man, Force Works, and the Black Widow. Story continues from Force Works #19. At Force Works headquarters in Ventura, Iron Man has killed again! Oh my goodness! And he's not finished yet unless James Rhodes can stop him! The golden avenger and War Machine have fought before! But never like this! Meanwhile in the sub-basement, another life-or-death battle rages: Century vs. the turncoat Cybermancer! Unbelievable! The wheels have come completely off at Force Works! Story continues in Iron Man 324 and Force Works #20. Cameo appearances by Rachel Carpenter, Fisher Todd, and Amanda Chaney (deceased). Force Works Lineup: Century, Moonraker, Spider-Woman, Scarlet Witch, and the U.S. Agent. 

The Crossing - "Wish Upon a Star" Story continues from Force Works #20. War Machine zooms into outer space to shut down the Starcore satellite built by Stark Enterprises! Rhodey's mission is critical because the satellite serves as the trigger device for the chronographic bomb underneath Force Works headquarters! When War Machine enters the orbiting facility, he runs into a familiar face: Skye! Then Jim bumps into Kang's assigned guardian of the satellite: Dirge! And Dirge is wearing an Eidolon Warwear suit too! Which man wears the suit best? The planet Earth will find out soon! Cameo appearance by Sheva Joseph. 

"Time Will Tell" Jim Rhodes rushes to the SHIELD infirmary in Bakersfield to visit his dying friend! Sadly, Sheva Joseph has been in failing health, since she made the time jump (in an unprotected manner) during the Zietkrieg crisis several issues ago. Is there anything Rhodey or his Warwear suit can do to save her life? Cameo appearance by Rae LaCoste. Final appearance of Sheva Joseph.

Final issue of the series - "The Kiss Off!"  Following the heartbreaking events at the infirmary, Jim Rhodes and Rae LaCoste are ready to leave Bakersfield. But SHIELD won't let Rhodey depart, because several agents saw the alien Warwear armor last issue! When SHIELD brings out the Mandroids to stop him, War Machine puts on a spectacular show! Where will James Rhodes go from here? How about anywhere he wants! (Notes: Rhodey appears next in Iron Man 327. During the Onslaught crisis, Jim Rhodes is among the heroes that stay on Earth-616. War Machine appears in the one-shot: Tales of the Marvel Universe (1997) #1; and then in the Iron Man 3rd series (1998).
