Ikarion was founded in 1993 and became one of the larger and more successful game developers in Germany. Despite the 60% to 70% DSAM rolling game Armalion, no investor could be found in 2001. The company was finally dissolved in December 2001.

Ascaron later acquired the rights of Ikarion from the bankruptcy and took over some former project staff. Based on Armalion, Ascaron developed the successful action-playing game Sacred.
The developer team has been since the takeover as a subsidiary of Ascaron under the name Studio II Software.
