Kadokawa Corporation (株式会社KADOKAWA, Kabushiki-gaisha Kadokawa), formerly Kadokawa Dwango Corporation, is a Japanese media conglomerate that was created as a result of the merger of the original Kadokawa Corporation and Dwango Co., Ltd. on October 1, 2014.
The Kadokawa Corporation, a holding company, was originally founded in 1945 by Japanese literary scholar Genyoshi Kadokawa as Kadokawa Shoten. The company's goal was to "revitalize Japanese culture through publishing" in the postwar era. Its first publication was Kashu Hodo (Anthology - Sidewalk) by Sataro Sato, and in 1949, the company published its first paperback, Kadokawa Bunko, featuring Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. Kadokawa Shoten went public on April 2, 1954.

On July 1, 2019, it was reorganized so only the publishing business remained in Kadokawa Corporation, and it was renamed Kadokawa Future Publishing (株式会社KADOKAWAフューチャー パブリッシング, Kabushiki-gaisha Kadokawa Fyūchā Paburishingu), while Kadokawa Dwango itself became the second iteration of Kadokawa Corporation and the holding company of all of the Kadokawa Group companies. The original name Kadokawa Shoten (角川書店) remains as a brand and a division of Kadokawa Future Publishing.
