Lafayette, played by Nelsan Ellis, was a short order cook at his local hometown restaurant. Lafayette is a medium that possesses a magical ability that allows him to make contact with the spirits of deceased loved ones. After a relationship with the powerful brujo Jesus Velasquez, Lafayette became possessed by a Mexican demon, giving him even more power. While Lafayette died in the second book of the 14 books of the book series, he remained an important character throughout all seven seasons of the HBO television series. His character in the television series had strong gifts as a medium, as well as his street savvy and ability to charm just about anyone - even in the face of danger - which separated him from Lafayette in the novels.
