She is best known for her work on comic book titles such as Conan the Barbarian, Power Pack, X-Factor, New Mutants, Superman: The Man of Steel, and Steel. She is often referred to by the nickname "Weezie". Among the comic characters she co-created are Cable, Steel, Power Pack, Rictor, Doomsday and the X-Men villain Apocalypse.
In recognition of her contributions to comics, ComicsAlliance listed Simonson as one of twelve female comics creators deserving of lifetime achievement recognition.

The sorcerer Ian McNee feels himself drowning in a sea of ice and calls on Oshtur to save him. Oshtur agrees on condition that McPhee render aid to an ancient Egyptian magician named Heka-Nut. McPhee agrees, and wakes up in his magic shop in NYC.
In ancient Egypt, Mirage and Magik are stranded after a mistaken teleportation effort by Magik, while a mysterious party perceives their arrival with tarot cards. With Magik needing time to recover before making another effort, they flee from angry guards, and are secreted away and aided by the sorceress who had observed them, Ashake, who turns out to be a distant ancestor of Storm. She uses the tarot cards (that she invented) to chat with Magik about her powers and her destiny. Suddenly they are assailed by the minions of the evil Heka-Nut. Despite their efforts they are both captured. Seeing Magik unleash her soul sword, Heka-Nut tries to steal her soul, but finds it is already corrupt and calimed by another.
