c. 450 BC/BCE to 300 CE

Mytilene is the capital of the Greek island of Lesbos, and its port. It was founded in the 11th century BC. Its coinage began around the middle of the 5th century BC and continued through Roman Imperial times until the reign of Gallienus.  Coinage was minted sporadically until 1449 under Byzantine, Crusader and Ottoman rule.  Some coins were made later but are rare.  The last coins minted at Mytilene were probably issued by the Ottoman Empire in 1863/4 CE (1277 AH).
