The New Jersey Nets were founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans. The Americans lasted one year before changing their name to the Nets. Playing in the American Basketball Association, the Nets won titles in 1974 and 1976. The franchise merged into the NBA for the 1976-77 season.
In 2012, the Nets relocated to their current home in Brooklyn.
