Profile from acroney.com:
Born in Plymouth, Devon, Peter was brought up in a farming environment in north Norfolk before his family moved to a rather more suburban existence in Croydon, Surrey. He was educated at the Trinity School of John Whitgift and excelled at languages and sport. His first job was a junior officer at sea with Union castle lines, making several trips to South Africa. He carried on traveling the world on a P&O Orient Lines ship - as a night telephonist.
Next came a few years in the family business sports shop. Then tried coaching tennis to children in several south coast schools. Not the easiest challenge. Then came the final solution to what had been so far a somewhat haphazard career. It arrived in the form of a hugely entertaining rear-engined Unipower GT, which left Peter smitten with hand-built specialist sports cars and thus turning his hand to writing about them. Magazines to which he regularly contributed included Hot Car, Motor, Autocar, Classic Car and Auto Enthusiast.
Books came next, Peter being responsible for writing such memorable titles as The Amazing Sports Car Journal, The Fun Car Explosion, Roadsters Replicas and Fun Cars, Specialist Sports Cars, Success Against the Odds, Amazing Mini, and even a brief history of MG. In 1979 he created and published a radically different car magazine called Alternative Cars, which covered the specialist car industry in depth and was a great success.
