Phoenix Gummiwerke AG was a rubber industry company founded in 1856 in the then independent city of Harburg (today Hamburg-Harburg). It manufactured car tires, hoses, seals, conveyor belts, shoes, boots and many other rubber articles.
In 1950, Phoenix concluded a long-term technical cooperation agreement with one of the largest US tire manufacturers, Firestone, which secured its connection to the most modern developments in tire technology for the next few years. In return, Firestone received 25 percent of the shares. In 1971 the cooperation agreement was not extended any further and Firestone sold its shares to Deutsche Bank.
