The company started as a manufacturer of airplanes to the Royal Swedish Airforce in 1937. In 1939 Saab moved its administrative departments to Linköping, they planned for a new first car.
In 1990 gm bought 51 percent of the car division Saab Automobile, and acquired the rest a decade later.
