Grand Prix Models introduced this range of built models under the Classic 43 brand in 1981. Then in 1989, the range was rebranded as Small Wheels with new 'SW' catalogue numbers and new box artwork.(Kevin Bailey, 2022)

Small Wheels was started by Dave Evans and Sue Pinnington in 1983. They concentrated on 1:24th scale with parts produced by Western Models. In 1986 Western Models purchased Small Wheels and released 1:43rd scale models under what became a Western Models sub brand. (Chris Sweetman, 2023)

In 1991, the Small Wheels range and brand name was purchased from Grand Prix Models (based in Radlett, Hertfordshire) by Western Models keeping the same 'SW' catalogue numbers and making them available for retail during 1993. 

Western bought Small Wheels in the 1990s (David Wright's book on white metal 1/43).
