Dotty, Fantasia, Slush, and Zoey were the first animals to appear on store shelves. The rest of the first nine were available in July 2020. The original Squish-a-Boos were around 14 inches in size.

In November 2021, the UK saw the arrival of the first licensed Squish-a-Boos featuring Peppa Pig.
In December 2021, 4-inch Squish-a-Boos made their way to retailer shelves in the UK. Ty began selling them at their online store in June 2022. The 4-inch Squish-a-Boos have plastic eyes instead of the embroidered eyes found on the 14-inch and 10-inch versions.
In June 2022, Squish-a-Boos clips made their debut in the USA. The clip versions of Squish-a-Boos have plastic eyes, just like the 4-inch versions. The only difference is the addition of a plastic clip and attaching loop.
During 2022, Ty decided to change the name of the entire Squish-a-Boos product line to Squishy Beanies. The swing tags on the newly introduced Squishy Beanies read "The Squishy Beanies Collection" instead of "The Squish-a-Boos" Collection.
