Something Missing?

Summer Metal Products, sometimes abbreviated S.M., was a manufacturer of home electrical appliances and low-cost 3-inch diecast toy vehicles, founded in Hong Kong in 1979. Summer was one of the most prolific manufacturers of unbranded "generic" diecast cars in the 1980s and 1990s.

Their toy vehicles have been sold under dozens of different names including many different private label brands. Two of the earliest and best known brand/series names associated with Summer are Motor Force and Marz Karz. Models produced during this era (probably the early- to mid-1980s) had the Summer name or logo embossed on their baseplates. Starting in probably the mid- to late-1980s, Summer's name and logo were removed from the models, leaving them only with "Made In Hong Kong" or "Made In China" and no manufaturer identification on the baseplates.

Unbranded Summer models can often be identified by their 4-digit reference numbers (often, but not always, preceeded by an "S") and a few unique wheel styles. Collectors should, however, be wary of relying solely on wheel styles to identify Summer models since many Hong Kong and China-based diecast makers used very similar styles.
