Businessman August Müller was serving with the 10th company of the 126th Infantry regiment just before the turn of last century. In the dust and heat of the parade ground, he dreamt of refreshing, cool peppermint sweets that could fit into every pocket.
What he dreamt, he then implemented. In 1903, he founded the company A. Müller & Co. & brought the first peppermint sweets onto the market in Strasbourg, Alsace.
When Strasbourg, as the capital of Alsace, was handed back to France at the end of WWI, the company moved across the Rhine to the idyllic city of Offenburg.

After the Second World War, nothing was as it once had been: Dr. Bruno Müller was established as missing in Berlin but never found, and in 1947 his father, August Müller, senior partner and founder of the company passed away, leaving behind their wives - who threw themselves into getting things running together. During the early Fifties, Dr. Bruno Müller’s widow Elisabeth ran the company. After Elisabeth’s untimely death, her sister, the well-known lawyer for women’s rights, Dr. Emmy Rebstein-Metzger, took over the company and increased production in Offenburg.
Vivil is the umbrella brand for eighty products which are sold and enjoyed in over thirty countries. The main product is still the original peppermint.
