Vulcans (also Vulcanians) are a fictional extraterrestrial humanoid species in the Star Trek franchise who originate from the fictional planet Vulcan. In the various Star Trek television series and movies, they are noted for their attempt to live by logic and reason with as little interference from emotion as possible. They were the first extraterrestrial species in the Star Trek universe to observe first contact protocol with humans.

To counter the emotionally crippling effects of Bendii Syndrome, Sarek mind-melded with Captain Picard. This gave him the needed emotional stability to complete the Legaran treaty, considered his final triumph.

A native of the planet Vulcan, Spock was the first Vulcan to enlist in Federation Starfleet and serve aboard the Starship Enterprise as a science officer under the command of Captain Kirk. He was renowned as the finest science officer in Starfleet. Prior to serving under Captain Kirk, Spock served with Captain Christopher pike for eleven years aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.
