After her father dies, Cinderella lives with her cruel stepmother and jealous stepsisters, who mistreat her and force her to work as a scullery maid in her own home. When Prince Charming holds a royal ball to find a bride, her stepmother does not allow her to go. Cinderella attends anyway, aided by her kind Fairy Godmother, who gives her a beautiful silver gown and a unique pair of glass slippers. She attracts the prince but has to leave abruptly when the Fairy Godmother's spell expires at midnight, accidentally losing one slipper on the staircase. The slippers do not disappear when the spell ends. The prince vows to marry the girl who owns the slippers, who after plot twists is found to be Cinderella.
