Guillermo del Toro Gómez (born 9 October 1964 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico) is a film director known for blending fantasy, fairy tale, and horror elements in his works. His gothic horror films include The Devil's Backbone (2001), Pan's Labyrinth (2006), Crimson Peak (2015), and Nightmare Alley (2021). He has also directed more mainstream films such as Blade II (2002), Hellboy (2004), and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008). His 2017 film The Shape of Water won a Golden Lion and the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. Del Toro is also credited as creator, author, screenwriter, and co-director duties of the Netflix exclusive animated series of the Tales of Arcadia trilogy.
