Maleficent is the antagonist of Walt Disney's 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. She is characterized as the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a christening, curses the infant Princess Aurora to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before the sun sets on Aurora's sixteenth birthday. Maleficent was created by Marc Davis and is based on the evil fairy godmother from the original fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault and The Brothers Grimm.

She was voiced in the 1959 film by Eleanor Audley, who earlier voiced Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's evil stepmother, in Cinderella (1950). She was voiced by Susanne Blakeslee in the Kingdom Hearts videos games and portrayed by Kristin Bauer van Straten in the Once Upon a Time television series 2011-2015. She is potrayed by Angelina Jolie in the 2014 and 2019 films with Maleficent as the titular character.
