Jo Siffert and Derek Bell were teamed up by Porsche in 1971 and ran all but this race in a 917. The car retired while Siffert was driving and Bell never had his turn. Siffert took Jackie Oliver's stint in Porsche 908/03 #1 and with Pedro Rodriguez, finished 2nd.
Nurburgring was the first of twelve recorded events for this car, chassis #012. It raced from 1974 through 1980, mostly with Jürgen Barth behind the wheel. It ran Le Mans in 1975 as #15 and finished 4th. Derek Bell finally had a second chance in the car's last race, the 1980 Dijon 1000K. The car did not finish.
