Fiat Dino owes its name to the designer of the engine, Dino Ferrari. In fact, the engines are from Ferrari, after an agreement that allowed the Maranello's carmaker to produce the required number of enigines to be approved in Formula 2 races. The car, apart from the engine, had no components in common with Ferrari' cars. The design of the coupe version was entrusted to Bertone and the "spyder" version to Pininfarina.
