The basic Majorette series of single three inch diecast models replacing the Rail/Route series (which featured model numbers below 200) in 1967, so named because all models in this series have numbers in the range 201 to 299 assigned to them.
Former Rail/Route models which remained in production were renumbered, usually by addition of 100 or 200 to their original numbers.

The 200 series has spawned many derivative series over the years, and in recent years it has been split into several themed series such as Street Cars and Racing.
However, since most models still feature numbers in the 200 range on their baseplates (albeit not printed in catalogs anymore), it is still meaningful to use the term "200 Series" to refer to the whole range of three inch diecast models by Majorette until the present day.
