The name "Matchbox 900" was used for the successor of the original Matchbox Two Packs series which had been made from 1976 to 1978.
The name change in 1979 came about because the decision had been taken to introduce models of semi-trailer trucks into this range, for which the term "Two Packs" would have not been appropriate. Still the majority of the range continued to comprise packs containing two each Matchbox Miniatures models.

The "Matchbox 900" designation was used until 1982. From 1983 onward the range was called "Twinpack", reflecting the fact there were no semi-trailer trucks anymore, which had been replaced by the Convoy series in the meantime.
On the US market only, the name "Hitch'n'Haul" was used in 1982.
