The 1903 Paris-Madrid Race was so dangerous that it threatened to end motor racing almost as soon as it had begun. Half the cars failed to complete the distance and eight people died, three spectators and five racers.
The deaths included Marcel Renault and Lorraine Barrow in this very car. Marcel's brothers Fernand and Louis carried on to form a successful automobile company. A statue was erected in his memory but it was destroyed during World War II.

The 200hp Darracq was designed as a sprint special and was completed on 28 December 1905. Just two days later it set the first of a remarkable string of records undertaken on both sides of the Atlantic. On 30 December 1905, untried and untested, the car reached the speed of 109.65mph, breaking the world land speed record.

At Daytona Beach in 1911, Bob Burman ran an average of 141.7 mph (228.1 kph) in the Flying Mile. This broke the unofficial absolute speed record (land, sea or air), set by Glenn Curtis in 1907 on a motorcycle (!). The new record stood for eight years. This is not that car although Brumm does make a copy. The record car has a tapered tail and I believe it is the only one that can properly be called 'Blitzen Benz'.
There were six Benz 200hp cars in total, and famed US racer Barney Oldfield toured the country in Burman's car running races against all comers. That car eventually ended up at Brooklands with a different radiator. Records could not be found to validate that the car raced with #15 nor who the driver was.

There were several races held at Brescia in September of 1921 and the Bugatti's victory wasn't in "the" Italian Grand Prix but in a voiturette race.
Came in 3 colors.
