Something Missing?

Bburago is an Italian model car manufacturer which was based in Burago di Molgora, Italy. The correct spelling of the name is "Bburago" with two b's, but it is frequently misspelled as Burago. The company was originally named Martoys, after founder Mario Besana, but changed its name early on. Very early models can be found with either the "Martoys" or "Bburago" name cast into their bases.

Bburago started out making 1/24 scale models and then introduced a 1/18 scale range, initially called the "Die Cast Diamonds," the first commercially-produced 1/18 scale diecast models. A range of simple 1/43 scale models was also introduced. Larger scale models were also offered in kit form and much later, Bburago also made a range of 1/87 scale keyring models depicting cars also featured in the 1/18 ranges.

Founded in 1976, Bburago went bankrupt in 2005, having been greatly affected by the Fiat Group's decision to award Mattel an exclusive license to make models of Ferrari cars, meaning Bburago had to immediately cease production of all their Ferrari models. It was purchased in 2007 by the May Cheong Group, which also owns the Maisto brand. Production of existing models thereafter continued alongside rebranded Maisto models and new castings, although models were no longer produced in Italy.

Early Bburago models are very collectible. The rarest of the early castings are the 1/24 Lancia Beta Sedan and Innocenti Mini, both of which were produced for only a few years in the mid-1970's.
