The Simpsons Trading Card Game was a card game released by Wizards of the Coast in September 2003, based on The Simpsons television show. It consists of 156 cards sold through traditional style booster packs and boxes as well as 4 theme decks. Each theme deck comes with exclusive cards not found in regular packs. The cards only come in two rarities (Common & Rare) unlike most games that normally also include a third (Uncommon). Every rare card also has a special foil variant that fall at an average of 1:3 packs. The gameplay was designed to be simplistic and accessible for all ages and easy to learn, but doing so failed to keep most of the gaming community's interest and poor sales caused Wizards of the Coast to cancel the game after the initial set release.
