Doctor Jonathan "Jon" Osterman was a nuclear physicist who was caught in a radioactive particle test, which transformed him into a godlike being known as Doctor Manhattan. He became a pawn of the U.S. government and a crimefighter, but eventually became bored of humanity and, after losing his lover and fighting his friend, he traveled from his world to Prime Earth, where he began performing experiments manipulating the already ever-timeline. Eventually, Superman helped him see the error of his ways, and he restored Prime Earth's timeline before returning to his own universe and saving it from nuclear destruction, giving his energy and life to his Earth.
