Eunice (died after 69)

Almost nothing is known of Eunice. She is not mentioned in any of the Roman sources.  We know her name from  inscriptions, the first of which was found by archaeologists in 1910, and surviving coinage. The coinage and inscriptions show her to have been a religious queen, and a woman of strong, virtuous character. As Queen and Regent, she helped the Bosporan Kingdom to flourish.

Eunice descended from one of the Greek noble families.  She married Cotys I (45 – 63, 68 – 69) sometime during his first reign.  In 68, when Galba restored the Kingdom, she ruled as a regent for at least part of the reign of her son Rhescuporis I (c. 68 – 70).   She died sometime after the end of her regency.
