Tekno was founded in 1928 in Copenhagen. After World War II the company produced diecast car and truck models, originally slightly smaller than 1/43rd scale, from the 1960s on in exact 1/43rd scale for cars and 1/50th scale for trucks. Although the models were made for the toy market, they were very accurate and thus rather expensive. In 1972 the Danish company went into liquidation; before that, some of the models were marketed under the name of "Kirk" for a short time. In 1974 the Dutchman John van Min bought the right to use the Tekno name and introduced a range of 1/50th scale model trucks made in the Netherlands. The Tekno trucks are excellently detailed and aimed at the collectors' market. The Dutch Tekno company has also reissued two Saab and Volvo car models made from original Danish castings.
