Wonder Man v1 (Comic)

"Making It Big" Wonder Man finally has his own series! And it begins in true Hollywood fashion by Simon's agent staging a phony fight for publicity purposes! Unfortunately, his agent picked a very difficult opponent in Goliath (aka Erik Josten)! Nevertheless with the cameras rolling, Wonder Man throws down with Goliathin the streets of L.A.! May the best man win! First appearances of Ginger Beach and Neal Saroyan. Second feature: 1-page mock interview with Simon Williams by Gutwrencher Magazine (part 1). (Notes: Goliath previously appears in Web of Spider-Man #65. He rampages through the Los Angeles area again in Avengers West Coast #92. "Screen Goddess" Guest-starring the West Coast Avengers. Wonder Man has gone crazy! And he's attacking his west coast teammates! Is the Hollywood avenger under the influence of something... or perhaps someone? The Scarlet Witch thinks a supernatural presence is affecting him! Can the Avengers help Simon break free from the allure of the Asgardian sorceress? First appearance of Alex Flores. Second feature: 1-page mock interview with Simon Williams by Gutwrencher Magazine (part 2). Avengers Lineup: Hawkeye, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman, and the U.S. Agent. "Eye of the Beholder" The Hollywood avenger is getting a sidekick... whether he wants one or not! And Simon's agent has already picked him: Spider Beach! Wonder Man has zero interest in a sidekick; but when he battles a new villainess, Gamma-Burn, Spider makes a suggestion that leads to victory! Is this the start of a beautiful friendship? "The Big Splice" Lady Lotus is gunning for Wonder Man! And she hires a new assassin to kill him: Splice! However first the crafty Lotus must set a trap! Through a phone call to Simon's agent, she arranges a bogus audition inside an abandoned soundstage! And eager to take on new roles, Wonder Man (along with Alex Flores) arrives promptly for his screen test! But it's not the producer or director waiting to see Simon! It's the savage Splice! Oh no, who will end up on the cutting room floor? First appearance of Splice. Cameo appearance by Neal Saroyan.

"Tough Times" Part 1 of 2. Guest-starring the Beast and Captain America. The Living Legend and the Beast travel to California to visit the Hollywood avenger! Cap is in L.A. to teach Simon new hand-to-hand fighting techniques, while Hank McCoy is there just to have fun! After Wonder Man's training session, Simon and Hank take off for a night of frivolity in the city! However their evening is cut short when a commotion begins downtown! Or maybe better stated... when a Rampage begins! Cameo appearance by the Scarlet Witch. Last $1.00 issue. (Note: Stuart Clarke (aka Rampage) previously appeared in Spectacular Spider-Man (1976 1st series) #18.)

"Tough Measures" Part 2 of 2. Guest-starring the Beast. At the end of last issue, the Recession Raiders knocked out the Beast! And now Simon has to rush his friend to the hospital for emergency treatment! Once Hank McCoy is in a doctor's care, Wonder Man heads back to the battlefield! Where he's ready to lay waste to Rampage and his Raiders! Cameo appearances by Alex Flores, Ginger Beach, Spider Beach, and Lady Lotus.

Operation: Galactic Storm. Part 4 of 19. "Shared Space" Guest-starring Quasar and Starfox. Story continues from Quasar #32. The Kree-Shi'ar war comes to the pages of the Wonder Man title! After the events of Avengers West Coast #80, Cap asks Simon to serve as Rick Jones' bodyguard! Reluctantly, Wonder Man agrees; and at the moment he's watching Rick at the Avengers' California compound! The day is going smoothly until Captain Atlas suddenly appears and Rick disappears! Oh my, what is going on? Apparently near the planet Saturn, Captain Atlas (with help from Doctor Minerva) has stolen the late Captain Marvel's nega-bands! And now he keeps switching places with Rick on Earth to avoid being captured by Quasar on Saturn! Wonder Man quickly tires of Atlas' game and can end it with one punch! Can Simon connect with the ever-changing Kree captain? Story continues in Avengers 345. Operation: Galactic Storm. Part 11 of 19. "Death Adrift" Guest-starring the Avengers. Story continues from Quasar #33. Millions of miles from Earth, Wonder Man and his fellow avengers find themselves in the Shi'ar galaxy standing before Empress Lilandra! The heroes have come to convince the Majestrix to stop the Kree-Shi'ar war, but she has something very different in mind! Lilandra asks the Starjammers to transport the Shi'ar's massive nega-portal to the Kree galaxy! Corsair refuses; but Raza, Ch'od, and Hepzibah agree! As the Starjammers begin towing the nega-portal toward the closest stargate, Simon and the Vision leap aboard! Wonder Man thinks the Shi'ar are covering up the true purpose of the nega-portal and wants to disable it at all costs! So while Simon and the Vision are working together, will the sensitive subject of the Scarlet Witch come up? Oh yes it will... and it might jeopardize everything! Story continues in Avengers 346. Operation: Galactic Storm. Part 18 of 19. "Big Decisions" Guest-starring the Avengers. Story continues from Quasar #34. The clock is ticking on the nega-bomb! As the Skrulls' spaceship with the deadly device in tow has finally reached the Kree galaxy! Wonder Man is still inside the massive bomb trying desperately to shut it down! But one person, actually one synthezoid, stands in his way: the Vision! Why do the two heroes disagree on the proper course of action? Meanwhile, the Avengers' team on Hala and the Avengers' team on Chandilar zoom through space toward the nega-bomb! Will they or Simon be able to diffuse it in time? If not, the enormous bomb will go: Boom! Story concludes in Avengers 347. Cameo appearance by Empress Lilandra. (Note: This story was reprinted in 2006 in the trade paperback: Avengers Operation Galactic Storm.)

"Coming Down" The Kree-Shi'ar war is over. The Earth, the Avengers, and Wonder Man have survived. But the Kree galaxy was destroyed by the nega-bomb. Now Simon has to regroup and pick up the pieces of his life in Los Angeles. And to start he makes a phone call to Alex Flores! Wonder Man and Alex go to lunch at a Cambodian restaurant and later visit a Buddhist temple (for screenwriting ideas)! Eventually, they return to Alex's house where Simon meets someone new! First appearances of Jamie Flores and Angkor. Cameo appearances by Lady Lotus, Spider Beach, and Neal Saroyan. (Note: This story takes place after the events of Wonder Man (1991 1st series) Annual #1.)

"Killing Fields West!" A new super-villain named Angkor is tearing up Los Angeles! The rampaging behemoth is enraged over the bombing of Cambodia during the Vietnam War! And he wants to destroy as much property and kill as many people as possible! When Simon hears about the destruction, he leaves Alex's house and rushes to the scene! But Wonder Man's powers have been fading in and out since his exposure to the nega-bomb! Will the Hollywood avenger have enough strength to defeat the mighty Angkor? Hopefully so, because Alex, Jamie, Ginger, and Spider have front row seats to the action! Cameo appearance by Lady Lotus. 

Infinity War tie-in (uncredited) - "Angkor and Anger" Wonder Man has gone down to defeat at the hands of Angkor! And thankfully, his friends carry him back to his home to recover! Once Simon feels better, he heads to the Avengers' compound to enlist his teammates' aid against. Angkor! But to his shock, his fellow avengers want to go to New York instead! Simon storms out and tracks down Angkor at a nearby munitions plant! And then and there Wonder Man and Angkor battle to the death! Win or lose Simon will be a changed man forever! Cameo appearances by Hank Pym, Living Lighting, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman, U.S. Agent, Alex Flores, Jamie Flores, Ginger Beach, Spider Beach, and the Reed Richards doppelganger. Infinity War crossover - "Into Infinity" At Four Freedoms Plaza, Simon Williams and the West Coast Avengers are knee-deep in the Infinity War saga! And while trying to figure out what is happening, Wonder Man has conversations and confrontations with numerous other super-heroes including the Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, Beast, Strong Guy, Hercules, and Thor! A while later Simon leaves the FF's headquarters and searches for the missing Hawkeye and Spider-Man! But bizarrely he finds the Wonder Man doppelganger instead! With his powers still fluctuating, is Simon ready to beat an evil version of himself? Cameo appearances by Alex Flores, Jamie Flores, Ginger Beach, Spider Beach, Lady Lotus, Captain America, the Thing, the Thanos doppelganger, and the Magus. (Note: Elements of the story continue in Infinity War (1992) #2 and #3.) 

Infinity War crossover - "Infinite Memory" In the dimensional corridor between time and space, the great heroes of Earth are locked in battle against Thanos and the Infinity Watch! And Wonder Man draws the very powerful Adam Warlock as his opponent! Simon lands numerous blows on the enigmatic Warlock, but his constantly changing powers keep him from winning! Eventually, Galactus stops the battle and transports all the combatants to his spaceship! However once aboard Simon suffers an identity crisis breakdown! He turns to the Scarlet Witch for help, but the results are mixed! Wonder Man must pull himself together... as the Infinity War is far from over! Cameo appearances by Alex Flores, Jamie Flores, Agatha Harkness, Captain America, Doctor Druid, Hercules, Thor, Polaris, the Human Torch, and the Thing. Infinity War tie in - "Shadow of the Infinite"  Outside the Magus' stronghold, the final battle of the Infinity War has arrived! And it pits a bevy of Earth's super-heroes against their evil doppelgangers! Wonder Man holds his own in the free-for-all by maintaining a high level of intensity! But his rage causes him to misidentify the doppelgangers! He lashes out at Captain America, Drax the Destroyer, and the Thing; while accidentally helping the doppelganger of the Scarlet Witch! Fortunately, Simon refocuses in time to face his own personal demon again: the doppelganger of himself! It's a savage slugfest between Wonder Man and his evil double! May the best Simon win! Cameo appearances by Hercules, Living Lightning, and Wolverine. (Notes: Elements of the story continue in Infinity War (1992) #5. Wonder Man appears next in Infinity War (1992) #6 - the conclusion of the saga.)

"Powderkeg" The Infinity War is over. The good guys won; and Simon Williams is back in Los Angeles. However the Hollywood avenger is not well. The nonstop violence during the war has turned Wonder Man into the "lethal engine of destruction" he always feared! So when Lady Lotus cranks up the murder and mayhem on the streets of L.A.; Wonder Man responds with violence bordering on brutality! Lotus' criminals can be stopped, but can anyone stop Simon? The Avengers will try next issue! Cameo appearances by Hawkeye, Living Lightning, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman, U.S. Agent, Alex Flores, Jamie Flores, and Armed Response. 

"Explosion!" Guest-starring the West Coast Avengers.  Wonder Man has lost his mind! And he's violently lashing out at every criminal he can find! However Earth's Mightiest Heroes have arrived on the scene to shut down his rampage! But do they have enough raw power to subdue their fighting mad teammate? Good luck to Clint, Julia, Miguel, Wanda, and the U.S. Agent! They're going to need it vs. the living engine of destruction! Cameo appearances by Alex Flores, Jamie Flores, Ginger Beach, Spider Beach, Neal Saroyan, Lady Lotus, Rampage, Splice, and Armed Response. "The Ashes Fall" Guest-starring the West Coast Avengers. As expected Earth's Mightiest Heroes cannot defeat Wonder Man! But at least they convince him to quit his rampage! However, Simon does them one better: he quits the Avengers! In fact he doesn't want to be a superhero anymore! Meanwhile, Simon's friends are enjoying the new powers they received (in Wonder Man #12) after being accidentally blasted by ionic radiation! And now they want to challenge Armed Response! Cameo appearances by Alex Flores, Jamie Flores, Ginger Beach, Spider Beach, Neal Saroyan, Lady Lotus, Rampage, and Splice. "The Crazy 8!" Part 1 of 3. Southern California has a new superhero team! The Crazy 8! And they are ready to show off their powers and expose Armed Response! The fledging octet secretly videotapes a meeting of Lady Lotus' henchmen! And then Alex, Jamie, Ginger, and Spider rush the tape to a local news station! But Armed Response is in hot pursuit! Will Crazy 8's first adventure also be their last? And by the way, where's Wonder Man during all the action? He's busy auditioning for the role of Macbeth! Cameo appearance by Splice. (Notes: The entire story is printed sideways (aka widescreen format) similar to Fantastic Four 252 and Spider-Man (1990) #16.

"The Cutting Room" Part 2 of 3. The Crazy 8 bask in the glow of their victory over Armed Response last issue! But little do they know that retribution is coming their way via Rampage and the savage Splice! With Wonder Man out of town, Lady Lotus sends the two brutes to kill the Crazy 8! Initially, the novice heroes hold their own in the fight! But once Splice stabs Alex Flores in the chest, the battle takes a serious turn! The Crazy 8 will become the Crazy 7, then 6, then 5, and so forth; unless Jamie Flores can find Simon in time!
