The Catspaw Dagger, also known as the "Valyrian Steel Dagger," is a fictional item featured in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire franchise, and is a prominent and important item within the main storyline. The dagger originally belonged to Aegon the Conquerer, and has a prophecy marked on its blade, which was kept secret by the Targaryen Dynasty for several decades, and would only be revealed to its heir over an open flame.
The dagger has had several owners and users throughout many centuries. It was first owned by both Lord Aenar Targaryen and Aegon the Conquerer, and was then in Jaehareys I Targaryen's possession. Years later, it was passed down to Viserys I Targaryen, then his eldest son, Aegon II. The dagger eventually made its way to Lord Petyr Baelish nearly two hundred years later.
