1903 Renault 40 HP
The 1903 Paris-Madrid Race was so dangerous that it threatened to end motor racing almost as soon as it had begun. Half the cars failed to complete the distance and eight people died, three spectators and five racers.
The deaths included Marcel Renault and Lorraine Barrow in this very car. Marcel's brothers Fernand and Louis carried on to form a successful automobile company. A statue was erected in his memory but it was destroyed during World War II.
