Taking Ghost Rider to a ghost town, the Bounty Hunter explains that he was contracted to retrieve John Blaze's soul. After keeping back hordes of hell as his time runs out, the Bounty Hunter tells how he came to be in this state: He explains that he was once an unethical bounty hunter in the wild west known as Lamuel Haskill, who's habit of shooting an opponent in the back came back to him when he was shot and killed from behind by the brother of one of his last bounties. He then made a deal with the devil to become his own personal bounty hunter when needed.
Lost in the desert, Johnny comes across Woody Gunthers, a old prospector with psychic powers, after a brief scuffle when Gunthers believes him to be the "Dark Riders", Johnny is invited into Woody's shack for a meal. There Woody explains he stole his powers from somewhere and they've helped him mine for gold.
As the Ghost Rider speeds through the canyon roads, he happens upon a Death Cult that is about to sacrifice the Senator's daughter, Karen Sterling, to their death god. Stopping them, Ghost Rider hands the girl over to the Sheriff before finding a place to sleep for the night as John Blaze
Able to stop his plummet and actually ascend up the face of the canyon on his motorcycle, Ghost Rider tries to stop the Death Cyclists that tried to run him off the road. However when he corners them, instead of being captured they choose death and throw themselves over the canyon.
After racing a train, the Ghost Rider changes back to John Blaze, and in his weakened state after transformation he is struck by a car. Taken into the home nearby, he meets Thurgood Vance, a scientist who was vehemently against nuclear power after a nuclear accident caused his daughter's unborn child to become horribly mutated. Thurgood tells John that after the baby was born he mercifully killed it which discredited him from the scientific community. However, it has not stopped his progress and so he shows John a suit of radiation proof armor that would harness nuclear power as well.
In the night, the Ghost Rider rounds up the last of the Jackal Gang, defeating them with ease, while in the morning John Blaze awakens once more amnesic and resumes his new day job as a mechanic. When Gina crashes her car, Johnny goes out to save her.
Finally catching up with the crooks that tricked him into his ordeal with the Crimson Mage, the Ghost Rider makes their plane crash. Changing back to Johnny Blaze, Blaze pulls into a tavern for a quick drink. There he watches a televised event of a new motorcycle stunt man named Flagg Fargo who is attempting to smash all of Johnny's records.
Once again losing to Flagg Fargo, Johnny loses his cool and hits his opponent. That night as Ghost Rider, John tries to track down the thieves. Believing that Fargo is involved, he breaks into Fargo's trailer and tells him that once he has a confession out of his thugs, he will come back for him.
Transported back to the Wild West, Johnny Blaze ends up meeting the Phantom Rider, the Ghost Rider spirit from that era. The two work together to stop the Tarantula and his men from committing a heist, and after battling the Manitou once more, Johnny as the Ghost Rider uses his hellfire to make the Tarantula and his men surrender to the sheriff.
When Ghost Rider isnt battling sirens, he's involved in a high speed road race above a canyon.

Johnny Blaze stops off at a gas station in a small Indiana town. He then gets attacked by several townsfolk upset that he is using their water to drink and clean his bike. After using the power of the Ghost Rider to fend off his attackers, he discovers that the town is experiencing a water shortage. Eager to help those in need, Blaze devises a plan to bring up water from an underground river. The problem is that he needs the Water Wizard and the Water Wizard is currently being held in the Rosedale Sanitarium, and there are others also looking for the Water Wizard.
At the Q'araq Oil Field, in Saudi Arabia, the workers believed that they were being attacked by jinns. In reality, the Water Wizard, who was in a helicopter with Hurani, had used his powers to fashion monsters out of petroleum
Meanwhile, Johnny Blaze watched news coverage from Dave's Diner in Indianapolis and learned that Hurani was behind the incident and was demanding the surrender of the government. Johnny planned to go to the Middle East to stop Hurani, but realized that he could not afford to do so. He visited Flagg Fargo, who was in town, and argued about their previous stunt-riding contest before asking him to lend him money for a trip to Saudi Arabia. Fargo agreed, but forced Johnny to give him his motorcycle as collateral.
