He never imagined then that in about 40 years later he'd have a team of 120 professionals working on his seven NHRA drag racing teams in a 120,000-square-foot shop he built near Indianapolis.
Or that he would own and manage the biggest professional team in drag racing that owns nine world championships.
He is the founder/owner of Don Schumacher Racing, an NHRA drag racing team.

This was a race car, never intended to be driven on the street. It was a fiberglass replica body of a Plymouth Barracuda. It was designed without doors as it was a 'funny car' They are basically a 'rail' dragster covered with a lift off/'flip top' body. Many times, the chassis would be reused the next year when the new body style came out, they would just 're-skin' the same frame & continue using it.
