The very first models were made out of plastic with tin baseplates and the later ones were all plastic.

Until the early 1970s, the bodies were molded from a locally sourced plastic material called "Rhodialite". It's a cellulose acetate which is prone to warpage over time, not unlike the 1950s American promotional models, which were made from a similar plastic.
