Scania AB is an European heavy truck manufacturing company based in Sodertalje, Sweden. It also produced buses, and diesel engines. The company was previously known as "Scania-Vabis").
In 1968, the traditional double name "Scania-Vabis" ceased to exist, which had previously been seen as a lettering on the vehicles. From then on, only Scania stood on the radiator grilles. In the same year a new cab for the heavy front handlebars appeared, which was now also box-shaped. The most striking distinguishing feature of the Scania front handlebars were and are the wide crossbeams on the vehicle front, which were initially not uncontroversial as a design, due to all subsequent generations. The cabin design was so progressive, however, that with small retouches it lasted until 1980 throughout the entire construction period of the successor, the series with the final digits 1.

Scania AB is 100% owned by the German automotive company Volkswagen AG, forming a part of it's Volkswagen Truck and Bus GmbH subsidiary, along with MAN SE and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus.
Volkswagen gained ownership of Scania by first buying Volvo's stake in 2000, after the latter's aborted takeover attempt, increasing it to 36.4% in the first quarter 2007. It then bought out Investor AB in March 2008, raising its share to 70.94%. The deal was approved by regulatory bodies in July 2008. Scania then became the ninth marque in the Volkswagen Group. By 1 January 2015, Volkswagen controlled 100% of the shares in Scania AB.
