Two police cars chased Ghost Rider before he crashed through a moving train and jumped over a gorge, escaping them. When the Sun rose, he transformed back into Johnny Blaze and thought that his powers were getting harder and harder to control. A few miles away, the Orb and his henchmen robbed an armored car and he revealed that he planned to purchase a device that could destroy Ghost Rider. Johnny Blaze stopped by Quentin's Carnival and attempted to secure a position as a cycle jock, but was turned down, so he exhibited his skills to Ralph Quentin, who was impressed and demoted Red Fowler to the his new hiree's assistant.
Several days later, the Orb purchased a laser-helmet and a gauntlet that fired eye-missiles from Madame Menace and tested it on two androids resembling Ghost Rider. As Johnny was going out to eat dinner, Quentin told him that two men on motorcycles stole money from them. Johnny decided to pursue the two bikers without the help of the Ghost Rider and they led him into a trap before the Orb blasted a hole in the ground below him. As the Ghost Rider, he escaped the pit and began fighting the Orb, who fired eye-missiles at him and although the former was weakened, he did not die, so the latter attempted to flee. Ghost Rider let the Orb and his henchmen live, but destroyed their motorcycles and leaving them twenty miles from the nearest town before driving off.
