During the high class party, Marrina samples a small fish and is suddenly transformed into a wild raging beast! And then Namor's wife jumps into the East River and swiftly swims away! What just happened? Captain Marvel and her teammates aren't sure, so they return to Hydro-Base to plot a course of action. Meanwhile over the next several days, a series of oceanic disasters occurs all over the world! Apparently a leviathan of biblical proportions is rampaging across the seas! Could there be a connection to Marrina? The Avengers hope not, but the Sub-Mariner fears so! Cameo appearance by Kang the Conqueror and Ravonna. The scheming Doctor Druid thinks that Marrina (aka the Leviathan) should be killed, but the Avengers with help from Henry Pym make one final attempt to save her! Incredibly Dr. Pym's plan seems to work after the Black Knight fires a special dart down the Leviathan's throat! But sadly Marrina transforms back into the giant sea serpent several minutes later. And then the Avengers finally accept the reality that all means necessary must be used to stop her! To that end the Mighty Thor brings down the thunder and lightning from the heavens, but again to little effect! Thus leaving Earth's Mightiest Heroes with only one weapon left to use…the Black Knight's ebony blade! Will Dane Whitman stab Marrina and invoke the blood curse of the blade? Or will the Avenging Son use the blade to slay the Leviathan himself? A poignant ending to one of the Avengers' saddest tales. Death of Marrina. Needless to say morale is near an all-time low as only Doctor Druid, She-Hulk, and Thor can answer the call to duty. Right now the Avengers would be extremely vulnerable to an attack from one of their long-time foes! And inauspiciously Ravonna and about a half dozen Kangs have something in the works! The beautiful time traveler's instrument of deception is none other than…the Avengers' new chairman, Doctor Druid! Cameo appearances by Frank Rambeau and Maria Rambeau. (Notes: Captain Marvel's serious medical condition ends her long service on the Avengers' active roster dating back to Avengers 227. Her recovery takes place in Captain Marvel (2nd series)

"Beggars Would Ride!" Part 2 of 4. Ravonna plucks a giant mechanical dinosaur from the time stream and sends it to attack Washington D.C.! Once Doctor Druid becomes aware of the Mechanisaurus Rex in the nation's capital, he sends the Mighty Thor to intercept it! But the good (and conniving) doctor doesn't want the thunder god to destroy it, he wants the dinosaur to destroy the thunder god! Who put this guy in charge?! During the battle against the futuristic dinosaur, Thor sends a call for help back to Hydro-Base! Dr. Druid stops She-Hulk from leaving for Washington, but the nearly immobile Black Knight manages to escape! Can the knight's 12th century ebony blade carve up a 41st century dinosaur? Meanwhile the council of Kangs finally realizes what Ravonna (aka Kang Nebula) is planning! And begin mobilizing to prevent her from acquiring the most powerful weapon in the universe! Avengers Lineup: Black Knight, Doctor Druid, She-Hulk, and Thor. (Notes: In a situation similar to Captain Marvel's plight, the blood curse of the ebony blade eventually ends Dane Whitman's time on the Avengers' active roster for several years. Ravonna (calling herself Nebula) and Earth's Mightiest Heroes depart Hydro-Base in a quinjet…and fly into the time stream! Their destination? An ominous time bubble in the present day space-time continuum! Will the Avengers be able to penetrate the magnificent time bubble? And if yes, what will they find inside? Therein lies the mystery! Meanwhile, the three Kangs from the council of Kangs follow the quinjet in hot pursuit! Will they catch Nebula in time? The whole space-time structure of the universe is at stake! "Futures Imperfect!" Part 4 of 4. It's the cataclysmic conclusion to the Avengers' space-time encounter with Ravonna! What a sad day for the legions of Avengers fans! However just because the heroes are gone, that doesn't mean evil takes a vacation! And when crazy things start happening in New York City, one avenger (or pseudo-avenger) answers the call…Edwin Jarvis! In courageous fashion the Avengers' butler performs several heroic rescues of his fellow New Yorkers! But when a giant robot begins stalking him, Jarvis requests help from a long-time friend…Steve Rogers! With his classic poise and precision, the Captain rebuffs the robot! But can the Sentinel of Liberty rebuild the Avengers? His quest to do so begins in Avengers Annual 17. Cameo appearance by Peter Parker. Avengers Lineup: Jarvis and the Captain.
